It is fascinating to me that everything has an inner structure, although you don't notice that all the time. And everything is bound by laws, which you don't realize either all the time.
My work since 2000, Beautiful City, consists, mainly, of necklaces. They are ground plans of rooms, streets, cabinets, quarters, figures, years, rivers, moments, crystals, water. In fact they are an album of my every day surroundings and experiences. It is all about time and space.
As a ground plan the pieces are geometrical structures, but when they are worn they become fluid, moving and flowing, due to gravity.
In this way you could say time is folded space, or, space is unfolded time.
The ground plan takes its space, picking it up you wear it and it becomes time. The ground plan is static, the worn piece is dynamic.
The ground plan is for a place, it’s stable, fix, the necklace is for on the move, it’s mobile, flux and foldable.
As a ground plan the piece is for the mind, the necklace is for the body. You take a distance and also find yourself in the piece. You are both the observer and the actor.
As material I am using strips of gold and metals, covered with pigments, and pearls.
I am using quite the same elements, but with them I can build new pieces all the time. They are my elementary particles.
The pieces are presented 2 dimensionally, as a ground plan, and are built 3 dimensionally, move 4 dimensionally, but in fact they exist in an in-between dimension and appear in various forms, emerging from each other, appearing, disappearing and reappearing again.
There is a distance between thinking and being. I separate them a while.
